CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A domestic dispute involving a broken lamp, a pumpkin decoration and a box cutter ended with both parties being taken to the Ross County Jail Wednesday morning, according to a Chillicothe Police Department report.
Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Hirn Street shortly before 7 a.m. on September 10 for a reported domestic dispute involving Brooklynn Brannan and Travon Hood.
According to the report, Hood told officers that an argument began after he said something that upset Brannan. He alleged Brannan broke a lamp before he pushed her onto a couch. Hood further claimed Brannan later picked up a pumpkin decoration that had a stake on the bottom and threatened to stab him with it.
Hood told police he grabbed Brannan by the wrists to restrain her and acknowledged she may have received bruises. He denied striking her. Officers reported observing a small scratch on Hood’s abdomen and another on the back of his ankle.
Brannan gave officers a somewhat different version of events. She reportedly said she became upset, threw a lamp and was then pushed onto the couch. She told police she later grabbed the Halloween decoration and threatened to stab Hood if he continued pushing her to the ground.
The dispute apparently wasn’t finished with the pumpkin.
According to the report, Brannan said Hood later grabbed a box cutter. Hood acknowledged picking one up but claimed the blade was not in it and said he held it in his hand without threatening Brannan. Police attempted to locate the box cutter but were unable to find it.
Both Brannan and Hood were placed in handcuffs and transported to the Ross County Jail.
Jail records show both were booked on misdemeanor domestic-related charges following their arrests by Chillicothe Police.
The allegations contained in the police report are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
