The Village of Ashville has received $3.5 million from EdgeConneX, the company whose data center project village voters will decide on Nov. 3.
The village announced the money as a donation, received the morning of Oct. 8, in a post on its live feed.
“The Village of Ashville would like to extend our deepest appreciation to EdgeConneX for their incredibly generous $3.5 MILLION donation, which was received on the morning of October 8, 2026,” the village wrote.
The village says the money is allocated three ways:
- $1,000,000 for parks and recreation improvements
- $700,000 for wastewater pump station upgrades
- $1,800,000 for engineering on the South Metershed Project, which addresses inflow and infiltration problems in the village sewer system under findings and orders issued by the Ohio EPA
“These are important projects that would otherwise require significant Village funding,” the village wrote. “Thanks to EdgeConneX’s generosity, we can move forward with these improvements while helping reduce the financial burden on our taxpayers.”
The donation is separate from the larger package described in village documents, under which EdgeConneX has pledged up to $102 million in support over time to the village, Harrison Township and the Teays Valley Local School District.
The money arrives less than four weeks before the Nov. 3 referendum on Resolution 06-2026, the development agreement council approved in April on a 5-1 vote. The agreement covers two data centers and a natural gas power plant on about 195 acres in the village.
Council passed the resolution as an emergency measure, which ordinarily blocks a referendum. Residents circulated a petition anyway, 669 signatures were validated, and the Ohio Supreme Court ruled Aug. 7 that the emergency declaration was improperly justified and ordered the question certified. The Pickaway County Board of Elections then voted 4-0 to put it on the ballot. Our earlier story on the court ruling is here: Ohio Supreme Court Orders Ashville to Certify Citizen Referendum on EdgeConneX Data Center Deal.
Council has since debated repealing the agreement outright. As it stands, Ashville voters decide the question on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
