A Columbus man appeared in Franklin County Municipal Court on Friday on two very different cases: a felony strangulation charge and an older case carrying companion animal counts.
Tyrone Custer, 36, is charged in case 2026 CR A 016574 with strangulation, a second-degree felony, at the grade alleging serious physical harm, according to court records. In the companion case, 2024 ER B 070052, he faces three counts under Ohio’s prohibitions concerning companion animals, including one count alleging a failure to provide access to shelter.
Neither arraignment sheet describes the underlying incidents, and no further facts were available in the court record Friday. Franklin County Sheriff’s Office records list both cases on Custer’s current booking. Bond had not been set in the felony case as of his appearance in courtroom 4D.
Custer is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. The felony case is typically presented to a Franklin County grand jury, which decides whether to issue an indictment and move it to the Court of Common Pleas.
