Ross County is taking the first step toward a new way to chase state road money.
The Ross County Commissioners voted Tuesday, October 13 to begin creating a Transportation Improvement District for the county, according to the meeting record.
The board agreed to pay Montrose Group LLC a flat fee of $25,000, paid over five months, to guide the county through setting up the district and applying to the Ohio Department of Transportation for its annual allocation.
Once it is in place, the district could help the county pursue up to $500,000 a year in state transportation funding for road and bridge work.
County leaders said the goal is to put Ross County in a stronger position when state transportation dollars are handed out each year, rather than watching that money go to other counties.
No road projects were named in the October 13 action. The vote was to create the district and start the application process.
Also at the October 13 meeting, commissioners approved three change orders totaling $38,055 for TAM Construction on the State Route 104 sewer project.
