GREENFIELD, Ohio — McClain High School is one of 40 schools left standing in a national contest with a $1 million stadium upgrade at the end of it, and whether Greenfield keeps climbing now depends on something simple: votes, cast daily, between now and October 25.
T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights competition drew entries from nearly 2,500 small-town schools this year. The Top 40 announced October 8 are split into four divisions of ten schools each, and McClain is carrying the banner for Highland County. Making the Top 40 already pays: every finalist receives $25,000 for its school and a T-Mobile-hosted home game celebration.
The next step is bigger. The champion of each division receives $250,000 and a new Gronk Fitness gym, and stays alive for the grand prize, a $1 million home field upgrade. For a school McClain’s size, that kind of money is the difference between patching a field and transforming it.
The district is not treating it as a long shot. Students packed the auditorium for a rally photo under magenta lights, holding a banner that reads “Greenfield McClain Top 40” over the school’s pitch for the whole campaign: small town, big Tiger energy. The district’s ask of the community is to vote every day, share the word, and keep it going through the deadline.
How to vote
Voting is free and runs through Sunday, October 25. Supporters can vote once a day at t-mobile.com/brand/friday-night-5g-lights. Set a daily reminder; in a contest decided division by division, the schools that win are the ones whose towns actually show up every day.
However it ends, McClain has already banked $25,000 and put Greenfield on a national list alongside schools from much bigger towns. The next eleven days decide how much further it goes.
