The Ohio Auditor of State’s management letter for the Village of Piketon, covering the fiscal 2024 audit and dated June 24, 2026, flags a short list of bookkeeping fixes and no major findings.
The letter notes one compliance item: during 2024, spending in the Water Operating fund exceeded appropriations by $6,721, which state law prohibits. It also found the village had no control procedure making sure the appropriations and estimated receipts in the accounting system matched what council authorized and the county budget commission approved.
Two recommendations follow: RITA income tax receipts were recorded net instead of gross (an immaterial reclassification), and parts of the notes to the financial statements had to be corrected to match the audit report.
The auditors state these do not represent material noncompliance or significant deficiencies in internal controls. In plain terms: a routine letter telling the village to tighten up its bookkeeping, not a finding of wrongdoing.
