WILLIAMSPORT, Ohio. High school girls golfers from across Southeast Ohio were already on the course at Crown Hill when they learned the state tournament had one door, not two.
The OHSAA Division II Southeast District girls tournament was played Monday, Sept. 28, at Crown Hill Golf Club. A coaches’ information sheet for the event, provided to Hopewell Heritage Headlines, told coaches the opposite of what the association had approved in June. Item 18 reads: “D-2 Girls District – Two Teams and Two Individuals to State Tournament.” The boys’ line above it gave Division II boys the same number.

That girls’ number was wrong.
On June 11, the OHSAA Board of Directors approved 2026 and 2027 fall tournament representation on a 9-0 vote. President Stephanie Evans called the meeting to order. Evans is the Southeast District’s female board representative and athletic director at Federal Hocking. The minutes give Southeast Division II girls one state berth. Southeast Division II boys kept two. Executive Director Doug Ute was at the meeting. Hopewell Heritage Headlines is seeking comment from the OHSAA.
The cut did not reach the first tee.
Coaches at Crown Hill said the field was still playing under the two-and-two figure when the round started, and did not learn it was one team and one individual until players reached the turn. OHSAA’s own Southeast District pages for 2024 and 2025 both listed two Division II girls teams and two individuals for state.
OHSAA’s Division II girls tee times for the Oct. 11-12 state tournament at Firestone Country Club list one Southeast team, Piketon, and one Southeast individual, South Webster’s Reese Horner. No second Southeast team or individual appears.
The school lists show the gap coaches are asking about. OHSAA assigns 47 Division II girls schools across three sectionals, and 34 Division II boys schools across two. Those are assigned schools, not confirmed team counts. The association builds state berths from teams that actually compete, using a state qualifying quotient. Girls golf has two divisions. Boys golf has three, and Southeast Division III boys still receive one state berth under the same vote.
The state field is already set. The open questions are why the girls were cut and the boys were not, and why the correction arrived at the turn.
