Circleville police arrested a husband and wife early Sunday morning following a fight at a downtown bar that witnesses said involved concealed weapons and multiple people throwing punches.
Officers responded to The Pub on West Main Street around 12:12 a.m. Sept. 27 after reports of an active altercation. According to the Circleville Police Department report, bystanders pointed officers toward a man and woman trying to leave on a motorcycle. Those individuals were identified as Codi James Ramsey, 31, and Desiree Nicole Ramsey, 30, both of Chillicothe.
Desiree Ramsey told officers she had been searching the bar for her 21-year-old niece when a group of people attacked her husband over a logo on his jacket that they found offensive. She said she stepped in to break it up. Codi Ramsey told officers he had only shoved a woman away from his wife after being jumped and denied swinging at anyone.
Witnesses and people involved in the fight gave a different account. Multiple people told police that Desiree Ramsey shoulder-checked and body-checked others as she entered the bar, escalating tensions. One woman said Codi Ramsey grabbed her, kicked her, and pushed her against a wall after she reported the shoulder check. She showed officers redness on her arms, marks on the side of her face, and bruising with broken skin on her shin. Another woman reported being struck in the head and mouth. Video provided by a patron showed Desiree Ramsey wearing brass knuckles on her right hand while swinging during the fight, and officers later recovered two sets of brass knuckles—one pair found in a men’s bathroom trash can and another pair Codi Ramsey said were in his shoes during a search after his arrest. He also had a knife in his pocket.
Codi Ramsey was charged with assault and carrying a concealed weapon (a deadly weapon other than a handgun). Desiree Ramsey was charged with disorderly conduct (fighting or threatening) and carrying a concealed weapon. Both were formally trespassed from the bar and told not to return. Codi Ramsey was briefly taken to a hospital for evaluation of cuts and abrasions before being booked into the Pickaway County Jail. Desiree Ramsey was transported directly to the jail.
The report notes the incident appeared connected to an earlier dispute involving one of the women’s sisters and Desiree Ramsey at the same bar roughly two weeks prior.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey are considered innocent in a court of law. All charges remain allegations until proven guilty.
