Ohio Investigative Unit agents partnered with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office on a violent crime reduction detail during the Ohio State versus Kent State football game on Sept. 19, 2026, at Ohio Stadium.
Agents made seven felony arrests and seized seven firearms illegally possessed by the offenders, according to an OIU statement.
Among those arrested was an individual who brandished a firearm at another person. Agents quickly intervened and took the suspect into custody.
Agents also apprehended two fugitives with felony and misdemeanor warrants. One was an armed juvenile who had a violent felony warrant and was wanted by the Columbus Division of Police for a prior felonious assault shooting.
“OIU is proud to work alongside our law enforcement partners to keep our communities safe,” the agency said.
The detail focused on removing illegal firearms and wanted individuals from the streets around a major public event. Criminal cases from the operation are expected to be presented to the appropriate prosecutor’s office.
