WHITEHALL, Ohio — A man who police say was already out on bond in connection with several serious felony charges is back in custody after being accused of rape in a new case.
According to the Whitehall Police Department, officers began investigating a reported sexual assault at a local business during the early morning hours of August 11.
Police said dispatchers gathered information from 911 calls, including descriptions of the suspect and a vehicle, and relayed that information to responding officers. Investigators then used video footage, Flock license plate reader technology, vehicle information, investigative databases and other resources to identify Davonn McBroom as a suspect within hours of the reported incident.
Officers later located McBroom and the vehicle at a local drive-thru, where police said he was taken into custody without further incident.
According to Whitehall Police, McBroom was already out on bond in connection with previous felony charges that include felonious assault, rape, kidnapping and strangulation.
Chief Crispen credited dispatchers, officers and investigative technology with quickly identifying and locating McBroom, saying the case demonstrated how those resources can work together in an effort to obtain justice for victims.
In connection with the August 11 investigation, Whitehall Police said McBroom was charged with rape and operating a vehicle under the influence.
The new allegations remain accusations, and McBroom is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
