Pike County Native Cindi Remy Named Chief Communications Officer at Shawnee State University

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – Shawnee State University has appointed Cindi Remy as its new Chief Communications Officer, the university announced on August 3, 2026.

Remy, a Pike County native with nearly three decades of experience in journalism and public relations, will lead the university’s internal and external communications strategy. Her role includes strengthening Shawnee State’s brand and increasing its visibility at the local, state, and national levels.

“Shawnee State students and faculty are doing impressive things every day,” said SSU President Eric Andrew Braun. “Cindi’s decades of experience in journalism and public relations, together with a strong commitment to this region, will continue to elevate and amplify our university’s great work and impact.”

Remy began her career as a producer at NBC4 in Columbus. Over nearly 20 years in broadcast news, she advanced to lead both evening and morning newscasts. She later returned to her hometown of Waverly, Ohio, where she participated in community projects and shifted into corporate communications. Her work included roles in healthcare and, most recently, at the Southern Ohio Cleanup Company.

“While my news career played a significant role in my experience as a storyteller and leader, my passion has always been highlighting southern Ohio and finding ways to improve our community,” Remy said. “Education is the foundation of economic growth and Shawnee State University is leading the region.”

A graduate of The Ohio State University, Remy lives in Waverly with her son Landon, who is an incoming Business Management major at Shawnee State.
