Pike County Prosecuting Attorney Michael A. Davis announced today that Christopher Barfield received a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The Honorable Rob Junk of the Pike County Court of Common Pleas imposed the sentence in case 25CR141. The decision followed a four-day jury trial that ended June 18, 2026, with convictions on all counts, including the murder of Jason Scott, the attempted murder of Kandie Holsinger and the kidnapping of Holsinger.
The charges arose from an incident in the early morning hours of November 23, 2025, at 425 Curtis Lane in Piketon. According to the prosecutor’s office, Barfield held Holsinger against her will for several hours, terrorized and assaulted her at gunpoint and fired shots into the floor. When Holsinger tried to reach the door to escape, Barfield fired a .22 caliber rifle in her direction. The shot struck Scott, who had stepped in to help, killing him instantly. Barfield fled and hid at a neighbor’s house until law enforcement took him into custody.
Barfield claimed he was attempting suicide when Scott intervened and the gun went off accidentally. The jury rejected that account after reviewing the evidence presented at trial.
The investigation was a coordinated effort involving the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and Southern Ohio Organized and Major Crimes Taskforce, the Pike County Prosecutor’s Office, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (Crime Scene, DNA and Firearms units), the Lake County Crime Lab Firearms Division, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, Piketon Police Department and Waverly Police Department.
Davis called the prosecution a true team effort in which all agencies worked together to deliver justice for the victims. He specifically thanked Alan Wheeler and Amy White of the Prosecutor’s Office for their exemplary work on the case.
Scott wasnt a hero he brought mr barfield there and was fine with willingly scaring me into doing sexual favors to them but I refused and then mr. Barfield was going to tie me up n torture me mr Scott wasnt ok with that trying to talk mr barfield out of it then I tried to run mr barfield went to shoot me as mr Scott went to CATCH ME N TOOK THE BULLETT
