Wellston Man Indicted on Multiple Passing Bad Checks Charges, Arrested in Ross County

A Wellston man is facing a lengthy list of criminal charges after a Ross County Grand Jury returned an indictment alleging numerous instances of passing bad checks.

According to Ross County Common Pleas Court records, Matthew Alan Young, 46, of Wellston, was indicted on May 29, 2026, on multiple counts of Passing Bad Checks under Ohio Revised Code 2913.11.

Court records show the indictment includes numerous charges, with at least two first-degree misdemeanor counts and multiple fifth-degree felony counts. The case was assigned Ross County Common Pleas Court case number 26CR000238.

Following the indictment, prosecutors requested the issuance of an arrest warrant. Court records indicate a warrant was issued on May 29 and served by the Ross County Sheriff’s Office on June 5.

Jail records show Young was booked into the Ross County Jail on June 5. Additional inmate records indicate he is being held on charges that include multiple counts of passing bad checks and related financial offenses.

The case remains open before Judge Michael M. Ater. No future court date was listed in court records as of Friday morning.

As with all criminal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
