CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Chillicothe woman is set to be released from the Ross County Jail after serving only a portion of a 30-day sentence imposed in a long-running school attendance case.
According to Ross County Common Pleas Court records, Jesmin Beverly pleaded guilty in a Cause and Compel case, which alleged she failed to ensure her school-age children attended school as required by Ohio law.
Court records show Beverly was ordered on May 26 to serve a 30-day jail sentence, with the matter scheduled for a report-to-jail date of June 3. However, a court entry filed June 3 modified that sentence.
Judge Jeffrey J. Benson ordered that Beverly be released from the Ross County Jail on June 5 at 10 a.m. after serving approximately two days of the sentence. The remaining 28 days were suspended on the condition that she pay court costs within 30 days and ensure all of her school-age children attend school as required by law.
The case was originally filed on April 22, 2025. Court records indicate the Ross County Sheriff’s Office was listed as the complainant in the matter.
The court’s order states that failure to comply with the conditions could result in further action regarding the suspended jail time.
The case is listed as closed in Ross County Common Pleas Court records.
