A man already serving a prison sentence in Ohio, stimming from charges in both Lucas and Ross County, is now facing felony drug charges in Scioto County following a 2024 indictment landing him in Scioto County custody in 2026.
According to court records, James Malcolm Mallett, 35, is currently incarcerated at the Toledo Correctional Institution under the custody of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Mallett has been in prison since 2015 on multiple felony convictions, including aggravated burglary, kidnapping, and drug-related offenses.
In September 2024, a Scioto County grand jury returned an indictment charging Mallett with:
Trafficking in Drugs (Felony 4) Possession of Drugs (Felony 4) Aggravated Possession of Drugs (Felony 5)
Court filings show a warrant was issued following the indictment, and arrangements were later made to transport Mallett from prison to Scioto County to face the charges.
As of early 2026, Mallett has been brought before the court for arraignment, where he entered a plea of not guilty. Bond was set at $12,500, though he remains in custody due to his current incarceration.
Additional filings indicate ongoing pretrial proceedings, including discovery requests and motions filed by both the defense and prosecution. A pretrial hearing is currently scheduled for March 20, 2026 in Scioto County Common Pleas Court.
Mallett remains incarcerated while the case proceeds.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
