Wrestling Champion Fights for Fairness in Women’s Sports
Sardar Pashaei, a former world champion wrestler from Iran, knows what it’s like to see athletes treated unfairly. He’s now speaking out about a different kind of mistreatment he sees happening to female athletes in America.
Seeing Injustice Across the Globe
Pashaei witnessed female athletes in Iran face severe punishments, like lashings, just for not following dress codes. Today, he sees a new challenge: American female athletes being silenced when they talk about fairness in sports.
The Big Debate: Who Should Compete in Women’s Sports?
Pashaei is concerned about biological male trans athletes competing in women’s categories. He believes every athlete deserves a fair shot. “I’m against silencing athletes,” he says. “If they think something isn’t fair, they should be able to speak up. Athletes work incredibly hard for their dreams, and everyone needs an equal chance to compete.”
Why Fair Play Is Everything
He explains that reaching the top in sports takes years of discipline and sacrifice. When the playing field isn’t level, it can crush those dreams. “Every athlete wants a fair game,” Pashaei adds. “That’s what sports should be about.”
A Plea to Olympic Leaders
As a 1998 World Youth Wrestling Champion, Pashaei is calling on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to step up. He wants them to use science to protect women’s sports and make sure everyone competes in the right category. “It’s complicated, but fairness must come first,” he states.
What Most Americans Believe
A new poll by the Center Square Voters’ Voice found that 68% of registered voters support keeping trans athletes out of women’s sports. The survey asked 2,659 people from all political backgrounds.
How Politics Colors the Issue
The poll shows a big split:
- 88% of Republican voters support bans on trans athletes in women’s sports.
- 49% of Democratic voters feel the same way.
- Independents fall somewhere in the middle, reflecting a nation divided on the topic.
Why This Matters for Young Athletes
Pashaei’s message is simple: sports should be fair for everyone. Whether you’re wrestling in Iran or running track in America, your hard work should count. Speaking up for fairness isn’t just about rules—it’s about protecting dreams.
