Woman Identified After Body Recovered in Ohio River

POMEROY, Ohio — Authorities have identified the body of a deceased woman found in the Ohio River as Keely Shuler, 32, of Pomeroy, Ohio.

The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office announced the discovery in a press release issued Sunday, March 15, 2026. While Kentucky and West Virginia authorities searched the river for a male subject, they located the body of a female. The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office coordinated with the Greenup County Coroner’s Office in Kentucky, Kentucky State Police, and the Greenup County Sheriff’s Office.

A tentative identification was made using photographs and distinctive tattoos matching those of a missing person from Pomeroy. Shuler’s family members and Meigs County Sheriff’s Office personnel traveled to meet Kentucky authorities near the Ohio-Kentucky border, where a positive visual identification was confirmed.

Shuler had been missing since February 10, 2026, when her vehicle went off East Main Street in Pomeroy, struck a utility pole, and entered the ice-covered Ohio River. A four-year-old child in the vehicle was rescued by firefighters before the car fully submerged.

The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office requested that the public respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time and keep them in their thoughts and prayers.
