Gallia County Man Sent to Prison After Aggravated Arson Conviction and Probation Violation

A Gallia County man convicted of aggravated arson has been ordered to prison after violating the terms of his community control.

According to records filed in the Gallia County Court of Common Pleas, Nicholas I. Eblin, was indicted on December 13, 2023, on a charge of Aggravated Arson under Ohio Revised Code 2909.02.

The charge was originally filed as a second-degree felony but was later amended to a third-degree felony during the course of the case.

Court records show that Eblin initially entered a plea of not guilty, and the defense later filed a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity, requesting a mental health evaluation. The court subsequently ordered an evaluation to determine the defendant’s mental condition at the time of the offense.

Following several hearings and continuances, the case proceeded toward resolution in the fall of 2024. On October 29, 2024, Eblin entered a guilty plea to the amended charge. The court recorded the conviction on November 26, 2024, and a sentencing entry was filed shortly thereafter.

Eblin was placed on community control sanctions, commonly referred to as probation.

However, according to court filings, prosecutors later filed a motion to revoke community control on June 27, 2025, alleging that Eblin had violated the conditions of his supervision. A capias warrant was subsequently issued, and Eblin was arrested.

The case continued through a series of probation violation hearings in 2025.

On February 5, 2026, the court filed a probation violation sentencing entry and issued a warrant to convey the defendant to prison, along with a certificate of sentence.

Court records show the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office completed the transport order, and Eblin was delivered into the custody of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

He is currently listed as being housed at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient, Ohio, where inmates are processed into the state prison system.

The case was presided over by Gallia County Common Pleas Judge Margaret Evans
