Ohio Hit by Trio of Tornadoes Amid Midwest Storm Surge. Here’s where they touched down

Severe storms swept across Ohio on March 11, 2026, prompting widespread tornado watches and warnings as part of a larger Midwest weather outbreak. The National Weather Service confirmed three EF0 tornadoes touched down in the state that morning, marking the first tornadoes of the year for Ohio.

Two of the tornadoes occurred near Anna in Shelby County, while the third was reported near St. Johns in Auglaize County, both in western Ohio. These low-intensity twisters caused minimal damage, with central Ohio, including areas in south central regions like Ross and Pickaway counties, largely spared from severe impacts. No injuries were reported in Ohio from these events, though the storms brought heavy rain, high winds, and isolated hail across the state.

The outbreak stemmed from a powerful storm system that had already spawned deadly tornadoes in neighboring Indiana and Illinois earlier in the week, claiming at least two lives and causing significant destruction. In Ohio, a tornado watch covered much of the western and southwestern counties until noon on March 11, including cities like Cincinnati and Dayton. South central Ohio residents experienced gusty winds and thunderstorms but avoided the worst of the activity as a cold front moved through, dropping temperatures sharply afterward.

With Ohio’s tornado season typically peaking from April to June, experts note this early activity aligns with a predicted average or slightly quieter year, expecting fewer than two dozen tornadoes statewide. The Ohio Emergency Management Agency urges residents to prepare by practicing shelter plans, especially ahead of the statewide tornado drill scheduled for March 18 at 9:50 a.m. For south central Ohio, staying alert to weather alerts remains key as spring brings increased risks of severe weather.
