Chillicothe, Ohio – March 5, 2026
A central Ohio construction company has partnered with local authorities to offer a substantial reward in the wake of a tragic hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of one of its employees last week. Kokosing Construction Company, known for major infrastructure projects across the state including in southern Ohio, announced a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the driver responsible for the death of 25-year-old Jordan Thomas.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of February 28, 2026, around 2 a.m., in a construction zone on Interstate 70 westbound near State Route 315 in downtown Columbus. According to the Columbus Division of Police, a maroon early 2000s model Toyota sedan entered the active work zone, swerved, struck a generator, and hit Thomas, who was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:12 a.m. The driver fled without stopping, prompting an ongoing investigation by the police Accident Investigation Unit.
Thomas, a beloved team member at Kokosing, was working on an Ohio Department of Transportation project at the time. His family described him as having an “electric energy” that brightened those around him. In an obituary, loved ones noted that his unexpected passing on February 28 left a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him.
In a statement released on March 5, Kokosing President John Householder expressed deep sorrow over the loss. “Jordan Thomas was a beloved friend and valued team member of Kokosing Construction whose life was tragically cut short by a hit-and-run driver in our work zone,” the statement read. “Jordan’s loss is deeply felt by everyone who knew him, and our thoughts remain with his family, friends, and coworkers during this incredibly difficult time.” The company emphasized that nothing is more important than the safety and lives of its team members.
To aid the investigation, Kokosing has teamed up with Central Ohio Crime Stoppers to provide the $100,000 reward. Authorities encourage anyone with information to contact the Columbus Division of Police at 614-645-4767 or submit an anonymous tip to Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
Kokosing Construction, headquartered in Fredericktown, Ohio, has a strong presence in infrastructure development throughout the state, including significant contributions to southern Ohio communities. The company completed the US 35 corridor project in Ross County, linking Chillicothe and Richmond Dale, which has improved transportation and economic connectivity in the region. This local tie underscores the broader impact of such tragedies on Ohio’s construction workforce, from central hubs like Columbus to adjacent counties in the south where Kokosing’s projects support daily life and growth.
As the search for the driver continues, community members in Ross County and surrounding areas are urged to share any relevant details to help bring justice for Thomas and his family. This case highlights ongoing concerns about work zone safety in Ohio, where construction crews risk their lives to maintain and expand vital roadways.
