GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — The Colony in downtown Gallipolis does its dinners inside a piece of river town history: a former movie theater, where the big screen still hangs, the old murals are still on the walls, and 29 of the theater seats are still in the house.
Owner Amanda Roettker answered our questions about what the venue has planned for veterans and for the holidays.
Veterans Day at The Colony
The Colony will offer special discounts on Veterans Day and show a classic movie, Roettker said. Veterans and their families are welcome; reservations are taken anytime, by phone or by message on the restaurant’s Facebook page, and a week ahead is recommended for bigger parties.
The old theater, still a theater
Asked what part of the old theater guests notice first, Roettker pointed to the room itself: “We still have the big screen and old murals on the walls… have 29 theater seats also.”
Karaoke Fridays, live music Saturdays
The Colony runs three Friday karaoke nights each month and live music most Saturdays. Performers who want to play the venue can reach out with sample music or videos, the way the restaurant’s site invites them to.
What regulars order
When regulars bring family in from out of town, two dishes carry the table: the Hawaiian pineapple rice, which Roettker called a unique dish at the restaurant, and the house-made Alfredo, “always a hit.” The kitchen also runs weekly specials with a homemade soup every week.
Groups planning a holiday meal or party at The Colony can book the same way, by phone or Facebook message, with a week recommended for larger parties.
Thank you to Amanda Roettker for her contribution.
