CLEVELAND, Ohio — A 22-year-old off-duty Cleveland police officer shot and killed a 26-year-old man during an incident at an East Side apartment complex in the Glenville neighborhood on Wednesday evening, May 20, 2026.
The shooting occurred around 7:53 p.m. in the 1400 block of East Boulevard at the Park Place Apartments. According to police, a group of people were arguing when the situation escalated and multiple gunshots were fired. The off-duty officer was present at the scene but not acting in an official law enforcement capacity. He was not injured.

The victim was transported to University Hospitals, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators recovered a firearm at the scene believed to belong to the 26-year-old man.
The Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation. Cleveland police stated they are “deeply concerned by the circumstances” and hold officers to high standards both on and off duty.

On Friday, Cleveland Police Chief Annie Todd placed the officer, identified as Myron Priest Jr., on unpaid administrative leave. The department also released body-worn camera footage related to the response.
