In the clip, a performer in a white “FREEDOM” T-shirt marked with apparent blood and a simulated neck wound dances energetically to the song “Bulletproof” while images of Kirk appear on a large screen behind the stage. The audience can be seen reacting with applause and engagement as the sequence unfolds. The performance formed part of the touring “Turning Point U.S. Gay” drag show, a political parody production that has previously featured impersonations of Kirk’s widow Erika Kirk and other conservative figures. The show has raised funds for the American Civil Liberties Union.
Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent ally of President Donald Trump, was fatally shot in the neck by a sniper while speaking at an outdoor event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Authorities charged Tyler Robinson with aggravated murder and related offenses in connection with the killing; prosecutors have said they will seek the death penalty.
Supporters of the production have framed it as political satire and free expression. Organizers of similar “Turning Point U.S. Gay” events have described drag as inherently political and positioned the shows as a response to what they view as threats to civil liberties, while directing proceeds toward advocacy groups. Audience members at the San Francisco performance appeared to respond positively to the skit.
Critics have condemned the act as tasteless and dangerous. They argue that reenacting a real political murder for entertainment, complete with staged blood and celebratory dancing less than a year after the killing, crosses a fundamental line of decency and risks normalizing violence. Public figures including Florida Congressman Randy Fine have called the performance pure evil and said it reflects a deeper problem with political discourse. Online commentary has similarly focused on the optics of turning a fatal shooting into stage comedy while the accused killer still faces capital charges.
