Chillicothe Man Arrested Following Domestic Violence Investigation

A Chillicothe man was arrested Sunday afternoon following a reported domestic dispute on Orchard Lane, according to the Chillicothe Police Department.

Police identified the suspect as 29-year-old Elijah Keshawn Winfield, who was charged with Domestic Violence under Ohio Revised Code 2919.25.

According to the report, officers responded to a residence on Orchard Lane around 1:08 p.m. on May 10 in reference to a domestic disturbance. Officer Christopher Claytor made contact with a juvenile victim and the child’s mother, Madison Maughmer.

The juvenile alleged that Winfield assaulted him while his mother was away from the home. The child told police he was lying in bed playing a Nintendo Switch when Winfield entered the room, bear hugged him, and pinned him against the bed, causing pain. The child also alleged that earlier in the day Winfield walked past him and smacked him in the back of the head while he was eating breakfast.

Police stated the child’s mother confirmed the allegations and contacted authorities after being informed of the incident. Officer Claytor documented visible marks and injuries on the juvenile’s upper back and right shoulder blade, which were photographed as evidence.

Winfield reportedly denied the allegations and told officers nothing had occurred. However, based on the statements and visible injuries, Winfield was transported to the Ross County Jail and booked on the domestic violence charge.

Officer Christopher Claytor and Officer Christopher Althouse responded to the incident.

As with all criminal cases, the charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
