MASSIEVILLE, Ohio — The historic South Scioto School came alive with Halloween excitement Thursday evening, October 29, as families and community members gathered for a trick-or-treat event sponsored by Old School Auctions.

The festivities kicked off at 6 p.m., with a line of eager trick-or-treaters already stretching out the gate. The historic school grounds had been transformed into a Halloween attraction, featuring an impressive variety of decorations, including grim reapers, creepy clowns, inflatables, werewolves, skeletons, and even a fog machine that added an eerie atmosphere to the evening.

Several community members joined in the festivities, volunteering their time to distribute candy to children. Before the event began, volunteers also enjoyed a small lunch prepared using the kitchen inside the historic school building.

According to information shared about the event, organizers had reportedly gathered 400 pounds or more of candy to distribute to children throughout the evening.
Safety was also a priority, with both private security personnel and deputies from the Ross County Sheriff’s Office present to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone attending.

Beyond the Halloween festivities, the event also provided an opportunity for families to visit the historic South Scioto School, bringing new activity and community engagement to a building that has long been part of Massieville’s history.

With elaborate decorations, hundreds of pounds of candy, and community volunteers coming together, the evening highlighted how a historic local landmark can continue serving as a gathering place for residents of all ages.
