A motorcycle chase across Chillicothe’s west side Saturday evening ended at a dead end in Brewer Heights, with the rider in handcuffs and facing a felony charge.
According to a Chillicothe police report, an officer stopped at a red light on Woodbridge Drive on Saturday, October 24, 2026, saw a black motorcycle pass at high speed on Western Avenue and tried to pull it over with lights and siren. The rider, Tyler Byers, fled westbound, weaving through traffic, the report says. The pursuing cruiser reached about 89 mph before engine trouble forced the officer out of the chase.
A second officer took over the pursuit into the Brewer Heights housing development, where the report says Byers reached about 80 mph in a 25 mph zone, ran off the road and through yards several times, and finally laid the motorcycle down at a dead end on Turnberry Lane, where he was taken to the ground and handcuffed.
The officer noted an odor of alcohol on Byers’ breath. Byers said he had one drink and refused field sobriety tests at the jail, according to the report. The motorcycle had no license plate, Byers could not prove he owned it, and it was towed to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office tow yard.
Byers was charged with failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony, along with reckless operation and driving under suspension. His first court date was Monday morning in Chillicothe Municipal Court.
The charges are not a conviction, and Byers is innocent until proven guilty.
