CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A man was arrested Monday, October 12, 2026, after Chillicothe police reportedly discovered him sleeping inside a residence where he did not have permission to be.
According to a Chillicothe Police Department report, officers were dispatched to 455 East Second Street at approximately 11:32 a.m. following a report of an active burglary.
Upon arrival, officers approached the residence and made their way toward the backyard, where they encountered complainant Terry Poling standing near the back door. Poling reportedly directed officers upstairs, advising that someone was inside an upstairs bedroom and appeared to be asleep.
Officers entered the residence and proceeded to the second-floor bedroom, where they discovered a man later identified as Todd Bagley lying asleep in a bed.
According to the report, Bagley began waking up as officers entered the room. Police announced their presence and instructed him to raise his hands. Bagley complied, was ordered out of bed, and was placed in handcuffs while officers investigated the situation.
After being escorted to a patrol cruiser, Bagley was advised of his Miranda rights and agreed to speak with officers.
Bagley reportedly told police that he had simply been sleeping inside the residence. He claimed that a man named Chad was the person who showed him the house. Bagley also reportedly stated that the back door had been unlocked and that it was his first time inside the property.
Poling told officers that he periodically checks on the residence and had noticed that the storm door, which is normally left open, was shut. He also discovered that the lock on the interior back door was missing.
Officers subsequently contacted the property owner, Samuel Poling, who confirmed that he owned the residence. According to the police report, Samuel requested that charges be filed against Bagley and that he be trespassed from the property.
The property owner also confirmed that nobody was authorized to be staying at the residence.
Following the investigation, Bagley was transported to the Ross County Jail, where he was booked on a burglary charge under Ohio Revised Code 2911.12.
The police report indicates the incident was cleared by arrest.
