CHILLICOTHE — Eric Kocheran thanked the village after another Cuffs & Hoses afternoon: good weather, a crowd, and the people who played or worked the game. Photos shared by the KocheranStrong Foundation showed sheriff’s motorcycles, a fire engine, mixed red and blue teams on a diamond, and rows of cruisers in a lot.
The matchup has a local history that is not a generic cops-and-fire day. In September 2023, firefighters and law enforcement played the first Guns ’n’ Hoses game at VA Memorial Stadium to raise money while Kocheran recovered from being shot in the line of duty the previous November, when he was a Ross County sheriff’s sergeant. Fire won that one, 18–12. A silent auction brought in thousands. Kocheran later started the KocheranStrong Foundation, which has put money toward drug-free clubs in Ross County high schools. A 2024 cornhole fundraiser at Unioto cleared more than $2,400 against a $1,000 hope.
This year’s thank-you did not include a score.
