GALLIPOLIS — The Gallia County Sheriff’s Office spent a practice day this week talking more trash than taking grounders. The office said deputies were sharpening a plan to “smoke” the firefighters at next weekend’s police-versus-fire softball tournament in “The Ville,” the local nickname for Gallipolis.
The jab was the point. Firefighters, the office said, were “taking their daily naps” while the sheriff’s side worked strategy. The closer invited the other team to bring air tanks. A photo released with the note shows seven people in T-shirts and ball gloves lined up against a marked sheriff’s SUV on a grass lot, trees behind them.
The office did not list a field or a start time.
