A 36-year-old woman was arrested Thursday afternoon after Chillicothe police responding to a reported burglary found her hiding inside a North High Street residence whose owner was reportedly out of the country.
According to a report obtained by Hopewell Heritage Headlines, officers were dispatched to a home in the 700 block of North High Street on June 25 after a family member checking on the property reported seeing someone inside the residence.
Police were met by relatives of the homeowner, who told officers the residence was not supposed to be occupied. After entering the home and repeatedly announcing their presence, officers observed movement from a bedroom area and continued their search.
The report states an officer eventually discovered a woman lying in a bed beneath a blanket. After identifying themselves, police instructed the woman to show her hands and exit the room. She was taken into custody without incident.
Investigators identified the woman as Breanna Rose Haller, 36.
According to witness statements, family members had been checking on the home and feeding the homeowner’s cat while he was overseas. One relative reported arriving at the residence and noticing circumstances that appeared unusual before entering and finding someone inside. Police later made contact with the homeowner by phone, and he reportedly advised officers that no one had permission to be in the residence and that no one had been staying there during his absence.
During the investigation, officers observed several items inside the home that witnesses said had not previously been there, including a backpack, vape device, cell phone, purse, and other personal belongings. Those items were collected and secured as found property.
Haller was transported to the Ross County Jail and charged with burglary, a second-degree felony under Ohio law. Court records indicate she is scheduled to appear in Chillicothe Municipal Court as the case proceeds through the judicial process.
