Circleville Police Department officers recently participated in specialized tactical training conducted by RoundTown Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy as part of the department’s annual Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) continuing professional training requirements.
According to the department, the training focused on tactical fitness, defensive tactics, and decision-making scenarios designed to prepare officers for real-world encounters. The sessions were held at the department’s Station Two facility, which officials say provides a dedicated space for training, wellness initiatives, and fleet maintenance operations.

The training was led by Donnie Worthington, a GFTeam Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt with experience as a police defensive tactics instructor, police boxing instructor, and police ground fighting instructor. Worthington is also a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and has earned gold medals in numerous Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitions, including events associated with the Arnold Classic, Fuji Tournament, and Extreme Grappling.
Circleville Police officials credited RoundTown Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy for providing instruction that helps officers strengthen skills needed to respond safely and effectively in dynamic situations. The department noted that continuing professional training plays a critical role in maintaining officer readiness and enhancing public safety.
The department also expressed appreciation for the availability of its Station Two facility, which allows officers to conduct training in-house while reducing costs and saving resources for both the agency and the community.

Circleville City Councilman Jeff Hallinin attended portions of the training and participated in several decision-making scenarios alongside officers.
RoundTown Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy is located on U.S. Route 23 south of Circleville and offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction for students of varying skill levels, including law enforcement professionals seeking defensive tactics training.
