Chillicothe Man Arrested After Family Dispute Involving Alleged BB Gun Incident

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Chillicothe man was arrested Thursday night after a family dispute involving a child custody exchange escalated into allegations of assault and a struggle with police, according to a Chillicothe Police Department report.

Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Winona Boulevard shortly before 8 p.m. on May 29 for a disorderly conduct complaint. When officers arrived, they observed several vehicles blocking the roadway and began speaking with those involved.

According to the report, the incident stemmed from a custody exchange. Family members told police that Adam Blevins blocked vehicles from leaving and became involved in an argument with relatives.

One woman reported that Blevins had struck her with a BB gun while she was inside a vehicle. Police said Blevins later provided officers with a Nerf gun; however, family members later advised that the Nerf gun was not the item involved. According to the report, the item allegedly used was a BB gun similar to a Red Ryder rifle.

Witnesses also told officers that Blevins fired the BB gun multiple times during the incident. One woman reported feeling what she believed was a pellet or BB strike the back of her neck. Officers noted no visible injuries were observed.

After speaking with witnesses, officers determined there was probable cause to arrest Blevins for assault.

When officers returned to the residence to take him into custody, police said Blevins refused commands, pulled away from officers, and resisted being handcuffed. Officers reported that a Taser was deployed during the struggle before Blevins was secured in handcuffs.

Police said Blevins refused to walk to the cruiser and had to be carried by officers. During the struggle, an officer reported being kicked in the arm. Officers also said Blevins continued resisting while being placed into the patrol car.

Blevins was transported to the Ross County Jail, where police reported additional disruptive behavior during the booking process.

He was charged with assault, resisting arrest, obstructing official business, and disorderly conduct.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
