Bainbridge Woman, Who is No Stranger to The Justice System, Back in Custody After Prior Fatal Crash Conviction

A Bainbridge woman with a lengthy criminal and traffic-related history — including a conviction tied to a fatal crash that killed a local attorney — is once again behind bars in Ross County.

Shira B. Seymour, 49, is currently being held in the Ross County Jail on a domestic violence charge after being booked on May 24, 2026, according to jail records.

Seymour is no stranger to the criminal justice system. Court records show she was previously convicted in Ross County Common Pleas Court following a 2013 aggravated vehicular homicide case connected to the death of attorney Annie Rooney.

According to court filings, Seymour was indicted on multiple felony counts related to the July 4, 2013 crash. In February 2014, she was sentenced to a mandatory eight-year prison term on a third-degree felony aggravated vehicular homicide charge. Additional counts were dismissed as part of the case resolution.

Court records further show Seymour was ordered to pay more than $20,000 in restitution and received a lifetime driver’s license suspension.

Publicly available reporting from the time of the crash stated Rooney, 36, died after being struck by Seymour, who allegedly had an extensive history of prior traffic violations and alcohol-related offenses before the fatal incident.

Now, more than a decade later, Seymour has once again found herself in custody — this time on a domestic violence allegation.

As of Sunday evening, jail records showed Seymour was being held without bond after an arrest by Deputy Brayden Woodbridge.

The new case remains pending, and Seymour is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law
