CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A 57 year old Chillicothe man faces a reckless homicide charge after Ross County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shooting report on Mount Zion Road Sunday afternoon.
According to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office incident report, deputies were dispatched to the Mount Zion Road residence in Chillicothe at approximately 3:25 p.m. on April 26, 2026, after a caller reported a female had been shot and was deceased inside the home.
Deputies took the suspect, identified as Glenn Eldon Merritt, 57, into custody without incident. A deceased female was found inside the residence, the report states.

Merritt was booked into the Ross County jail on the charge of reckless homicide under Ohio Revised Code 2903.041. He is being held without bond.
The Ross County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau and the Ross County Coroner’s Office are handling the investigation.
No further details about the victim or circumstances have been released by authorities. The case remains under active investigation.
