Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road? Chillicothe Park Roosters Turn Heads in South Central Ohio

Chillicothe, Ohio – Local residents are chuckling after two roosters turned up unexpectedly at a Chillicothe park. Tommy Hammond, the original poster to Facebook, shared photos asking, “Anyone know why there is a chicken in the park?” He soon updated that there are actually two of them. The birds were spotted strutting along a stone wall by the water, grazing near geese and ducks, and even perching in a tree overnight and atop a car.

The post sparked plenty of light-hearted replies. Commenters joked the chickens crossed the road “to get to the other side,” escaped a KFC truck, or were hiding among park waterfowl to avoid the dinner table. A few noted Chillicothe might be turning into Key West.

While the humor flowed, some expressed concern the roosters may have been dumped. Ohio law prohibits abandoning domestic animals, including poultry, under Ohio Revised Code Section 959.01, with violators facing misdemeanor charges. For now, the pair appears healthy and is drawing smiles across south central Ohio. If they belong to someone, the owner now knows where to find them.
