Dayton Man in Custody After Indictment, Warrant Issued in Scioto County Drug Case

A Dayton man is now in custody in Scioto County following a previously filed indictment and the issuance of a warrant in a drug-related case.

According to court records, James Matthew Mitchell III was indicted on Oct. 3, 2025, on multiple charges, including:

Aggravated trafficking in drugs, a fourth-degree felony Aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony Illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor Possessing criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony

Following the indictment, prosecutors requested issuance of a summons upon indictment, which was sent to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for service. Court records later reflect a return of service through Montgomery County.

On Nov. 12, 2025, prosecutors requested a warrant upon indictment, and a warrant was issued the same day.

Jail records show Mitchell was booked into the Scioto County Jail at approximately 3:39 p.m. on March 18, 2026, on a charge of trafficking in drugs.

Recent docket entries indicate arraignment hearings were scheduled for March 20, 2026, though multiple entries reflect prior cancellations and rescheduling.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
