A Columbus man died after he was struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle on Kenny Road, according to Columbus police.
The crash happened just before 6:40 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, on Kenny Road just north of Preston Avenue, near Ohio State University.
Police said in a crash report that Dion Watts, 25, of the Northeast Side of Columbus, was riding a bicycle southbound on Kenny Road in the dark. A 2021 Porsche Cayenne driven by Daniel Lhota, 59, of Upper Arlington, was also traveling southbound when it struck Watts, police said.
A witness reported seeing Lhota strike Watts from behind and carry Watts on the hood of the Porsche for a few feet before coming to a stop, according to the crash report.
Medics with the Columbus Division of Fire took Watts to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:37 p.m., police said.
Columbus police accident investigators suspect Lhota was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, according to the crash report. The report states a warrant was obtained for a blood draw and that Lhota was physically impaired. Officers drove him home.
As of the evening of Friday, November 6, no criminal charges had been filed against Lhota in Franklin County Municipal Court.
