Walmart Debuts Fresh Sushi Bar in Jacksonville’s Next-Gen Supercenter

Walmart has introduced a fresh sushi bar at its newest Supercenter in the Oakleaf community of Jacksonville, Florida, as part of a broader effort to modernize its in-store grocery and foodservice offerings.

The store, located at 10000 Omni Drive, opened on February 4, 2026. It features a reimagined layout with expanded home and apparel sections, interactive digital touchpoints, elevated fashion brands, and enhanced grocery options including a bakery, deli, and the new fresh sushi bar.

The Jacksonville location serves as a prototype for Walmart’s “next-generation” Supercenter design. The company plans to build or convert more than 150 Supercenters nationwide in the coming years to match this model.

This marks the latest step in Walmart’s push to elevate prepared-food experiences inside its stores. The retailer has previously offered grab-and-go sushi (such as the Hissho on the Go concept in select delis) and pre-packaged sushi under its Marketside brand, but the Jacksonville store introduces a more prominent, fresh-made sushi bar integrated into the expanded foodservice area.

The new Supercenter created approximately 400 jobs and hosted a grand-opening celebration with giveaways, live music, and a meet-and-greet with a former Jacksonville Jaguar. It follows recent Walmart openings in Apollo Beach and a Neighborhood Market in Ocala, Florida.

Walmart operates 390 retail units across Florida, employs more than 120,000 associates in the state, and reported spending $8.8 billion with local suppliers in fiscal year 2025.

The addition of an in-store fresh sushi bar reflects the retailer’s ongoing strategy to compete more directly with supermarkets and restaurants by offering convenient, higher-end prepared foods during routine shopping trips. No timeline has been announced for when similar sushi bars might appear in other Florida or national locations, though the Jacksonville store is explicitly positioned as a model for future remodels and new builds.
