Two Charged in Portsmouth Attempted Homicide Investigation

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Two suspects have been charged following a shooting Sunday evening in Portsmouth that left one man seriously injured.

According to the Portsmouth Police Department, officers were dispatched around 7:25 p.m. on March 8, 2026, to 1817 Thomas Avenue, Apartment F, after receiving a report of a male who had been shot.

When officers arrived on scene, they located the victim behind the apartment building. The victim was transported by **Portsmouth Fire Department and EMS to **Southern Ohio Medical Center before being transferred to an out-of-county trauma center for further treatment.

Patrol officers quickly located and detained two suspects believed to be involved in the shooting and also recovered a firearm during the investigation.

Detectives with the Portsmouth Police Department responded to the scene and later filed charges against two individuals.

Suspects Charged

Brennen Malakyii Russell, a juvenile from West Portsmouth, faces the following charges:

Attempted Murder (F-1) Aggravated Robbery (F-1) Tampering with Evidence (F-3) Felonious Assault (F-2)

Colten A. Harmon, an adult from West Portsmouth, has been charged with:

Aggravated Robbery Felonious Assault

Authorities have not released additional information regarding the condition of the victim.
