PIKE COUNTY, Ohio — Pike County Sheriff Tracy D. Evans reports that Deputy Joshua Gullett and his K9 partner Rex assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol in a traffic stop on a white Ford F-150 in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 14, 2026.
The stop occurred around 4:35 a.m. Occupants told officers they were traveling from Michigan to Myrtle Beach.
Deputy Gullett deployed K9 Rex for a free-air sniff of the vehicle. Rex gave a positive alert, leading to a search.

Officers recovered two handguns: a 9mm pistol and a reportedly stolen .380 caliber pistol. They also seized approximately 143 grams of suspected narcotics.
The Pike County Sheriff’s Office highlighted the successful collaboration with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the effectiveness of the K9 unit in keeping drugs and weapons off local roads.
No further details on charges or individuals involved have been released. This incident marks another example of K9 Rex’s role in narcotics detection since joining the Pike County Sheriff’s Office in late 2025.
