Kenna, West Virginia – Chase Fleming, 35, of the Kenna area in Jackson County, is now in custody after authorities say he shot his father in the face with a crossbow.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest on March 18, 2026, following a lengthy foot pursuit and tracking operation through snow-covered parts of Jackson and Roane counties. Deputies described the search as exhausting.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on March 17 in the 200 block of Lightning Lane in Kenna. According to reports, the event began with a phone argument over a gun. Fleming then allegedly shot his father.
The victim was transported to CAMC General Hospital in Charleston, where he remains alive and in stable condition.
Fleming fled the scene in a white Dodge Ram 2500 Power Wagon with red graphics and Ohio temporary tags, which authorities later located. Deputies issued a warrant for malicious assault.
A multi-agency effort helped bring the suspect into custody. Assistance came from deputies in Roane and Kanawha counties, the West Virginia State Police, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and other responders.
Fleming has been charged with one count of malicious assault. Additional charges may be filed when the case goes to a grand jury. He was admitted to a medical facility for observation while deputies attempted to clear him for incarceration. Bond has not yet been set.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office thanked all agencies involved in the search.
