Counterfeit $100 bill passed at Pilot in Chillicothe, police investigating

Fake $100 Bill Used at Chillicothe Gas Station

What Went Down?

Over the weekend in Chillicothe, Ohio, a guy used a fake $100 bill to buy a cheap pair of reading glasses. The weird part? The store’s own fake-money checker said the bill was real.

The Chain of Events

At Pilot Gas Station

On the night of March 16, a man walked into a Pilot station. He picked up $16 reading glasses and paid with a crisp $100 bill. The clerk, being smart, used a special marker to test the bill. The marker didn’t show any fake—so the clerk accepted it and gave the man his change and the glasses.

Next Stop: Moe’s

After the gas station, the suspect went straight to a nearby Moe’s restaurant and bought some food. After that, he vanished. Police aren’t sure how he left the area.

The Suspect: Who Police Are Looking For

Surveillance cameras caught the guy. Here’s what he looks like:

  • An older white male
  • Has a white beard
  • Was wearing a hat with the “CAT” brand logo

How Did the Fake Bill Fool the System?

Most stores use those counterfeit detection pens. Real U.S. currency paper has special fibers that make the marker turn gold or yellow. Fake bills usually fail because they’re printed on regular paper. But some sophisticated counterfeits use real currency paper or treat fake paper to pass the test. That might be what happened here.

Police Investigation Status

The fake $100 bill is now evidence. Detectives are trying to get the surveillance video from both the Pilot station and Moe’s to track the suspect’s movements. The case is still active.
