A Chillicothe man has pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge in Ross County Common Pleas Court.
According to court records, Jamil A. Burgin, of Chillicothe, was indicted on October 25, 2024, on one count of Aggravated Possession of Drugs, a second-degree felony.
Burgin was served with a summons and later appeared for arraignment on November 12, 2024, where the court placed him on personal recognizance bond with conditions that included weekly reporting, drug testing, and continued treatment at Mary Haven.
The case remained active through 2025 as attorneys filed discovery motions, subpoenas, and a motion to suppress evidence. The court ultimately denied the motion to suppress in September 2025, allowing the case to proceed toward trial.
A jury trial had been scheduled for February 3, 2026, however Burgin instead entered a guilty plea on February 3, 2026.
The court scheduled a sentencing hearing for March 6, 2026, where the case was brought before Ross County Common Pleas Judge Matthew S. Schmidt for disposition.
Court records indicate the matter was addressed during a sentencing hearing on that date, though final disposition details were not listed in the available docket at the time of publication.
As with all criminal cases, defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law unless they enter a plea or are found guilty by a judge or jury.
