JACKSON, Ohio. It was signing day across Ohio on Monday as members of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s 181st Cadet Class put pen to paper and signed their letters of intent, including ceremonies at the Jackson District and Wilmington District posts that serve our part of the state.

The 181st is the largest cadet class the Patrol has welcomed in nearly ten years, and signing ceremonies were held at district headquarters across the state on Monday morning to mark the occasion.
At each signing, recruits took their seat at the table with a letter of intent in front of them, flanked by district troopers, with a pair of campaign hats resting on the table and family and friends looking on. Southern Ohio recruits signed at the Jackson Patrol Post, at 10179 Chillicothe Pike in Jackson, and at the Wilmington Patrol Post, at 950 Rombach Avenue in Wilmington.

The Patrol shared photos from both districts on Monday, showing one new cadet after another posing with the troopers who will one day welcome them into the ranks. For the families in the room, it was the first official moment of a career in the gray uniform.

There is not much time to celebrate. Training for the 181st Cadet Class begins Tuesday, October 27, at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Training Academy in Columbus, where the cadets start the months of work that lead to the badge of an Ohio State Trooper.

Congratulations to every new cadet who signed on Monday, and especially to the young men and women from southern Ohio. Heritage Headlines will follow our local cadets through training and on to graduation day.
