PIKE COUNTY, Ohio — A Pike County man is being held in the Fayette County Jail on charges including felony assault on a peace officer, and the sheriff’s report in the case says he ran from deputies into the woods and later fought two deputies at the hospital before he could be taken to jail.
Jiles Looney was booked October 5. The Pike County Sheriff’s Office report, released to Hopewell Heritage Headlines this week, says the case began the night of October 4, when deputies were called about a protection order violation. A woman holds a protection order against Looney, and deputies were told he was at her Waverly home anyway. Her brother told deputies Looney had yelled at her 2-year-old child, and that Looney had texted him to keep a weapon close and be prepared to use it.
Deputies went to the home at about 1:10 a.m. on October 5. According to the report, Looney was standing in the driveway when they pulled in and ran for the woods. He ignored two orders to stop before Deputy Mosley caught up with him and held him at Taser point, and he was taken into custody. The report says Looney told deputies he had smoked methamphetamine earlier.
Looney was taken to Adena Pike Medical Center to be medically cleared for jail. According to the report, once there he began saying he wanted to harm himself, then slipped his handcuffs around to the front, kicked Deputy Evans in the leg hard enough to knock him down, tried to bite Evans’ hand, and kept fighting as Evans and Deputy Goodson worked to get his arms back behind his back. The report says a mandibular pressure point was used to gain compliance, and the doctor then cleared him for incarceration.
He was booked on charges of violating a protection order, assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, obstructing official business, and failure to comply.
