Ohio agencies announce planned OVI checkpoints in advance. That public notice is why this information is being posted.
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers from the Athens Post will conduct an OVI checkpoint tonight, Friday, August 28, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 1215 West Hunter Street in Hocking County. The address is in Logan.
The Patrol said the checkpoint is funded with federal grant money and is meant to deter impaired driving and take impaired drivers off the road.
“OVI checkpoints are designed to deter impaired driving and proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways,” said Lt. Bobby Brown, Athens Post commander.
The Patrol reported that so far this year there have been 5,919 OVI-related crashes on Ohio roadways. Of those crashes, 236 people were killed and 2,449 people were injured. Officials also said state troopers make an average of about 25,000 OVI arrests each year.
