WAVERLY, Ohio – The Pike County Sheriff’s Office is recruiting young people ages 11 to 20 for its Youth Corps Program, a free initiative designed to give participants firsthand experience with law enforcement operations and community service.
The program targets youth interested in pursuing careers in law enforcement. It combines classroom instruction with hands-on activities and exposes cadets to the full range of sheriff’s office functions.
According to materials from the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, training covers comprehensive instruction in both classroom settings and practical participation. Cadets rotate through major divisions including Road Patrol, Dispatch, and Corrections to see how each area operates on a daily basis. The program also requires participation in community events such as the Beaver Oktoberfest, the Pike County Fair, and local parades. Teamwork is a core focus, with cadets working alongside sheriff’s office staff, other program participants, and partner agencies in supportive roles.
Candidate requirements include:
• Age between 11 and 20 years old
• No felony or serious misdemeanor convictions
• Good grades and strong school attendance
• No school or legal disciplinary issues
• Demonstration of good moral character and integrity
Participation carries no cost. Applicants must complete an application process and pass a standard background check.
